A fascinating item over at Jon Keller’s blog: apparently, “an operative for a competing campaign” forwarded Keller a copy of an email from DFA that went out today exhorting DFA members to, you know, make phone calls and knock on doors. Shocking! Here’s Keller’s reaction:
My reaction to this dime drop: … and the problem with this is … what?
If the implication is that Patrick is another version of Howard Dean, too lefty for prime-time and bound to blow up at an inopportune moment, sorry, Im not buying. Yes, hes a liberal, but so is a significant chunk of this state. Too liberal to beat Healey? Well see. As I recall, liberal Democrats in Iowa took a good long look at Dean and rejected him. Perhaps that will happen here, although I see zero sign of that. But if the Democratic Party is going to bet on a liberal this year, better that it be someone with legitimate grassroots support whos actually been pounding the pavement for the last couple of years talking with real people, rather than some aloof elected official anointed by clueless party insiders.
Strong words – and well said. The most remarkable thing, to me, is the fact that some “operative” from another campaign (no doubt him/herself one of those “clueless party insiders” Keller mentioned) bothered to send the DFA email to Keller at all. Maybe this “operative” saw it as evidence that Patrick was “unelectable.”
Keller’s right. They just don’t get it.
