Our “differently winged” friend Bruce over at mAssBackwards has hit upon a truly inspired idea: a “Blogger Apolitical Roundtable” (B.A.R.), held at a bar downtown on Friday, Oct. 13. The idea is not to discuss politics (such discussion is in fact discouraged), but rather to drink beer and “sing along with Mel,” as pianist Mel Stiller accompanies you – yes, you – as you stagger through your best rendition of “rock/oldies from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, with plenty of show tunes and standards, too.” (Don’t know the words? No worries – Mel has songbooks!)
Who: Boston area bloggers of all socio-political persuasions
What: Drinking and singing (Discussions of a political nature will be discouraged, hence the title of the event)
Why: Mostly because we’re thirsty (and have little shame when it comes to making fools of ourselves in public)
Where: Jacob Wirth’s, 31-37 Stuart Street, between Tremont and Washington Streets in Boston’s Theater District.
When: Tentatively scheduled for Friday the 13th (October), 2006 – 8:00PM to midnight
RSVP to Bruce at massbackwards[at]comcast[dot]net or in the comments to this post. I’ll need to know who’s coming, so I can reserve the primo seating next to the piano. Reserved seating will most likely be limited to the first 12 people to respond (2 tables). Of course, you could always squeeze in a chair or two or sit at the bar (closer to the beer taps, eh?).
I’m planning to be there. Hope you will too! If you’re going, be sure to RSVP to Bruce.

I doubt I can make it (North Adams is a LONG way from Boston, and the in-laws are coming a couple of days later, so lots of cleaning and whatnot), but if you can go, I highly recommend it. Jacob Wirth’s is a heckuva lot of fun.

Sounds enticing. I’m going to P-Town on Saturday, but I think I can swing a short trip to Boston Friday night.

Stop scheduling stuff! Every night in my week appears to be filled for the next 6 weeks. sighs

Also, not talk politics??? Is such a thing even POSSIBLE? Although, on second thought…it might be a REALLY nice vacation…
