I’m glad Deval won. He will be our next Governor, and it’s a long time coming. He’ll make a great first-black-governor, and I look forward to those days. Cape wind? More transit? Health care and education improvements?
<
p>
Murray’s win makes sense, and I’ll certainly support him. I feel he does fill whatever shoes that Deval doesn’t with various demographics to complete a sound ticket.
No matter who won, Massachusetts was going to lose. We had three primaries’ worth of talent and class on that ballot, but only one person could win. Reilly and Gabrieli both offer the leadership that many states cry out for, and I’ve had gubernatorial primary ballots in the past loaded with people not in the same class of those two.
<
p>
Deval is my nominee. Watching his concession speech, I will always have been proud that Reilly was my choice. I will feel that same pride about Patrick come November.
<
p>
As for the suckers in Healey’s room that were applauding the fact that Patrick won — you’ll regret it.

After I finish the OCPF reports for the defunct Reilly campaign, I’m going to work as hard as I have been for the past year for Tom Reilly in order to make Deval the next occupant of the corner office.
<
p>
Back about a year ago, I thought that Tom Reilly was the best choice to beat Kerry Healey. I believed it even though I knew Tom’s tax-rollback and his death-penalty policies were nothing but election-day gimmicks that would never pass muster with the Mass. legislature. No harm, no foul.
<
p>
The voters have made another choice.

In about 10 days, coordinated campaign, here I come!
was indeed dignified and gracious — I caught it on the radio. I think we can go into the general as a unified party, and Reilly shares the credit for this.

I remarked to my wife tonight that Reilly’s concession speech was the most impressive he looked all campaign long. He seems like a decent guy who just isn’t cut out for this type of high-profile campaigning. No shame in that. 99.9999 percent of us aren’t.
I’ve just spent the past 50 minutes on the phone taking results from precints almost non-stop, and for most of that time, I’ve had two people on the line. Each person who called in, I first had to tell to wait because I was taking someone else’s results… then once I got to them, another interruption while I tell the next person to hold.
<
p>
And half the time, line 2 in the other room is idle, because it only rolls over if someone calls when I have two on the line.
<
p>
I’ve never been at a campaign office that had call waiting on line 1 (actually, not sure if I’ve ever been at a campaign office with call waiting at all). And apparently, it is a bad bad thing. When setting up your next campaign office, just say no to call waiting (at least for line 1).
I was just looking for the results of the Murgo-Fresolo race when I noticed results from the nearby 10th Worcester. it appears that Marie Parente, the vehemently anti-immigrant social conservative from MIlford has lost!! Does anyone know anything about John Fernandes, who beat her??
p>
I’ve known Marie Parente: not my district, but the other town of my high school is in her district, and she spoke at my Eagle Scout ceremony. It’s sad for her, but if I’d been in that district, no way I would have voted for her. I was waiting to see Fernandes’ view on immigration before I was going to actively support him, and I think my mother-in-law has dealt with him as planning board chair when he represented developers, so some family & small town politics going on there, but at minimum I think he’s actually a Democrat unlike Parente đŸ˜‰
<
p>
I’m watching NECN talk about Blue Mass Group talking about being mentioned on NECN. weird…
Hey there, Simon! How’s life down south treating you? It’s Matt, and I’m actually now out of state myself–moved out to Ann Arbor for grad school.
<
p>
At this point, no word on the Chang-Diaz race–being all write-ins, that’s no surprise. Anyone else know about Haughton? I actually didn’t realize that she was running this Fall, but as I said, I’m out of state!
Did a quick check, and info on the Naughton race is at http://www.boston.co… . It appears that with 8 of 11 precints reporting, she’s winning! I know that it’s an open seat, but what’s the person she’s replacing like? If Naughton wins, is that a progressive pick-up or maintenance of an already-progressive seat?
Does anyone have early numbers on this race?
My 1yo and 6yo sons are now safely in bed and my husband is still not returned from working the polls for Chang-Diaz since 8am! I can’t find any prelim. numbers on this senate race. Does anyone have anything to share?
<
p>
A nice anecdote: At 8:20pm I was out front of our house getting the kids backpacks, etc, from the car (finally) and talking with a neighbor who had just returned from voting, and then another neigbor came out to his porch (primary night-itis?!). A couple minutes later my 6yo son opened our porch door and called out “Hey Mom, Patick won!” -we had NECN on while doing the before-bed physical therapy exercises for his broken leg…
<
p>
BTW on Sunday he had happily spent many hours stapling Chang-Diaz stickers to campaign lit. and then delivering them to hundreds of households in Mission Hill and Roxbury together with his Dad. Pretty impressive for a 6yo (I’m biased, of course!).
Hey. If y’all voted against her, call her office tomorrow and say that it’s clear that the district is divided, and that you hope moving into the next two years that she’ll work to bring the district together and to heed the concerns of the 47% in her district who did voted for her opponent. I know that her aid will probably laugh, but at the same time, beneath the politeness, it puts her on notice that there are a whole lot of you watching her. She knows she almost lost. Use that for leverage.

Patrick/Murray is a very strong team going into November.
<
p>
I’m not gonna get overconfident about it, but I think it should be pointed out that the the major reason Republicans have held on to the Executive Office for so long is not because of some mystical GOP powers, but rather because they’ve put up very good candidates, and we’ve put up blah candidates.

Totally opposite this year, on both sides of the equation.
Sonia is addressing a packed back room at Doyle’s, so I can tell you what I know… which is that we don’t know.

Some precincts didn’t want to hand count at all, and many of the rest counted with varying standards. The numbers we have are not enough to call a result, given the high uncertainty.

If Naughton wins the primary, she’ll be up against a Republican in November.

It’s a previously Republican open seat. In the special election Ginny Coppola, the widow of the former Republican rep. won the seat against Claire.

If the Democrats gain the seat in November, it’s a gain for the party.
