The Berkshire Eagle today endorsed Deval Patrick for Governor, saying, in part
Democrat Deval Patrick has withstood savage attacks upon his integrity without responding in kind, which speaks volumes about the kind of strong, positive governor we believe he will be. The Eagle is pleased to endorse Deval Patrick for governor of Massachusetts.
They did make one statement which I believe misidentifies an endorsing group. If I’m not mistaken, it was the Mass Chiefs of Police (MCOPA) which endorsed Patrick after a discussion about whether to remain neutral (they endorsed Romney 4 years ago).
It is significant that the state police, after first declaring they would be neutral, endorsed Mr. Patrick after meeting him. That speaks not only to the candidate’s ideas but his willingness to listen to others.

It’s too bad that her campaign doesn’t tell the Herald what kind of governor she would be. They say she’s “better” than that. But it was her campaign, so maybe she was better than that before the campaign, but she isn’t any more. She’s got a lot to answer for before she can (if she can) overcome it.

Remember her ads about how Gabreili was looking to benefit personally from stem cell research. Clearly, it’s not the smear she hoisted on Deval Patrick, but it was an unfounded attack.

I had forgotten about that! Thanks for reminding me that she started pre-Patrick.

As Michael knows well, the Eagle has been very good on this campaign all along. And if they hadn’t, there’d have been quite an outcry: the Berkshires are–to say the least–Deval country. I imagine even the most easterly of BMG denizens know that. But those of you outside the Berkshires may not know that MFW’s tireless organizing over the past year and a half is one reason why that’s the case.

Thanks for the kudos, Mark, though as we locals know, you’ve been no slouch yourself. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that it’s easy to work hard for a candidate as inspiring as Deval Patrick has been. And, by golly, it’s fun! I have never seen such an outpouring of offers to help or to contribute money to a campaign.

As you probably know, Deval is coming to North Adams and Pittsfield tomorrow, and in what seemed like minutes after I sent out an email asking for volunteers to help with the Community Meeting in Pittsfield, I had more offers than I knew what to do with.

You’re right, Michael, it was the State Police Association that endorsed Healy. Of course, you still have to dig through press releases to find her endorsements on her web site, while Deval’s got an endorsements page you click to from the home page, and to see them all, you have to scroll, and scroll, and scroll…

Hmm, maybe sometimes quantity is quality.

that got 19% raises from the Romney/Healey administration??

Lynne, I think it was more the Hillman factor. He’s one of theirs. The Staties, I mean.

As to the Mass Chiefs, to hear my brother tell it, he and a couple of others stick out like very sore thumbs in a group of very conservative law enforcement officers. Their endorsement of Deval is huge!

The Beagle actually had a nice article about the Chiefs’ endorsement. I guess the editorial staff didn’t see it.

In any case, there’s a good picture of my brother standing behind Deval…
