Charley, my man, is doing a hell of a job getting the facts out on Ben LaGuer.
So what has changed Deval? The DNA? I understand. But there is a strong case to be made that the results can’t be trusted. Experts say they stink. The other facts haven’t changed.
Innocent people are in jails all over the country. Remember?
Deval jumped ship at the first sighting of an iceberg. The cover-up is what is killing him. Deny Deny Deny. Trained by the best. The Clinton Whiter House.
But, he has nothing to be ashamed of.
His actions here must disappoint some of his strongest PROGRESSIVE backers.
P.S. All this bruhaha about Gary Sampson appealing his death sentence is not fair. This means you Jon Keller The guy is appealing the death sentence, not the guilty finding. In fact he admitted to the killings and threw himself at the mercy of the court. This is a completely different ball game and the issues his attorneys are citing are legitimate.
And a logrolling “Recommend” for you.

Honestly, all this stuff is in plain sight. Kudos to Eric Goldscheider for sticking with the case, even as it continues to look bleak after the (flawed) 2002 DNA test. And the 1994 Globe op-ed, Silber’s support, etc — all out in the open. I’m glad we’ve got it all here, though.
I Get A Kick Out of the Leominster Mayor.
He was a first responding police officer to the crime scene and for the past 2 days has been everywhere telling people this and therefore LeGuer is guilty.
<
p>
There is a first responding officer to every brutal crime for which an innocent person was convicted. And the brutality of the crime is not evidence of LeGuer’s guilt.
I follow this general rule of thumb — news items that I’ve missed get promoted, or if someone absolutely takes the words out of my mouth. Good commentary I tend to recommend but not promote. And since I’m the only one around right now … that’s what we got.
<
p>
As you say, there are so many red herrings with this issue it’s hard to keep track: The first-responding officer thing, brutality, the victim’s family’s reaction, etc. etc. All part of the story, but all irrelevant for determining who did it. But this stuff gets absolutely no traction in the media — too complicated.
Why so important if it’s a news item vs. “commentary”, rather than focusing on the quality of the post? Not that i’m saying this post in particular ought to be promoted. Just that some “commentary” posts are of much higher quality than many “news” posts, and I’d rather see better posts promoted regardless of whether they’re news.
Of course I consider quality. Quality + novelty is even better.

Look, either way, it ain’t scientific.
not having any anti0Deval in it.
No?
I made much the same point you made on the front page. He needs to get his story straight.

I declare this thread over, citing the Clinton Rule:
<

The Clinton Rule: As political debate grows longer, the probability of a candidate being accused of lying approaches one (1).
<
p>
Clinton’s Law does not dispute whether the candidate in question lied or not, but rather, that the comparison of Patrick’s lie to Clinton is so hyperbolic — i.e. how could anyone possibly compare to Clinton — that it should be avoided.
<
p>
It’s the New Generation Godwin Rule đŸ˜‰
I’ve seen the goodwin rule invoked a number of times… I like the idea of a “Clinton” version. SHould there be a “Nixon” rule too? đŸ™‚
Like the old Brit joke about how Nicholls and Dixon were in a bicycle crash, and were so horribly interlinked that they were buired as ‘Nixon’.
Good thing we don’t have to worry about the Fox News and MSNBCs of the world. Otherwise, we would be stuck in an endless cycle of “Should Patrick Withdraw” banners, and mouthpieces of either party debating the finer points of whether Deval has an unhealthy affinity for criminals.
<
p>
And thank goodness, Healey is just not a very good candidate.
Given that Patrick’s job right now is to get elected Governor, he no longer works for the justice department or the NAACP, I think it is perfectly legitimate for him to say “with the addition of this new piece of evidence, the story is less clear to me, so I will withdraw from the debate and see how the courts, lawyers, cops and advocates hash it out.” Ben LaGuer doesn’t need Patrick’s help specifically, but allying with him at this point in the game could hurt Patrick significantly.
<

He should own up fair and square to supporting LaGuer in the past and explain his reasons for stepping back now, without any waffling or dissembling.
