Kerry Healey had no substance whatsoever. Deval tried to interject some, but the format didn’t allow for it and Mr. Gergen, a person which usually deserves a lot of respect, couldn’t control any of the candidates at all. It was politics not just as full-contact, but politics as blood-sport.
I wasn’t surprised that Healey wouldn’t criticize Romney for bashing Massachusetts. If she did, she’d lose her Republican base, and if she didn’t she’d get clobbered. Instead she got clobbered anyway.
I got involved with the Deval Patrick campaign over a year ago because I wanted to end the debate that was all about shouting at eachother and making stupid little points, as Kerry Healey did. Deval Patrick had a positive, forward looking message, but the format didn’t let him get that out fully.
You know, right above them was a picture of Daniel Webster. I don’t think he’d be satisfied by the quality of debate tonight either.
