Of course, one way Dahl could have looked at it closely would have been to read the Boston Phoenix. They’ve done some homework on Boston crime… and they’ve been doing their homework for a while.
Dahl knew that the murder rate in Boston was “high” but he’d never thought to look up the crime rates in other cities like Springfield.
For people to pick the better candidate, political reporters need to research things like crime trends and infrastructure spending. That way they can provide readers with context instead of just retyping a candidate’s press release.
Because readers of the Globe expect David Dahl to be able to answer simple questions such as,
“Who is telling the truth here?”
