Kerry Healey has spent her most of her life as a professional criminologist. She has never lost a criminal case, never had the audacity to presume that someone, once convicted, may still be innocent. She is a scholar of criminology. She knows a perfect system when she sees it.
She also clearly understands the perceived political consequences of taking unpopular positions. She understands that standing up for someone that might be innocent is politically risky. Quite clearly, she understands the upside of winning the release of an innocent man is far outweighed by the consequences of that person’s DNA results coming back affirming guilt. That is too big a chance to take. That could be used against you.
So you may ask, what if that person was vindicated by the results of the DNA test? Well she knows that eventually some sucker will stand up and take that crazy risk. Thats not the type of leader she is, thats not the type of leader she will ever be. She knows better.
