Honestly, does Mitt think he’s helping Healey? The guy’s not even running for governor here (hurray!), but what do we get now? An ad for Mitt Romney! You see, things really sucked four years ago, Mitt came in Olympic torch in hand, made Healey stand behind him while he scribbled his signature on some things, and now we’re in great shape. Mission accomplished! Still with us? [crickets]
Was this Kerry Healey’s idea? This narrative simply doesn’t fit with what people think of the Romney years: As the Globe’s Lisa Wangsness points out, Mitt’s a millstone. There’s a palpable sense that the state is under-achieving: Right-track/wrong-track poll numbers are a stunning 34%/57%. And how does a guy with a net -8% approval rating get off saying he’d have no problem getting re-elected?
Nothwithstanding the uselessness of taking advice from one’s opponents: If Healey knew what was good for her, she’d run as far from Mitt as possible. After all, that’s all he’s done for Massachusetts. Voters are looking for someone a good deal more hands-on than Mitt ever was; the idea that Healey will offer more of the same is poison to her campaign.
Thanks, Mitt!
Does anyone else agree that the Republican’s strategy to recycle the look of the Romney-Muffy ’02 campaign is a big mistake?

Essentially, they took the same lawn signs and bumper stickers, with the same colors and the same fonts, and just moved the names. The old ROMNEY/HEALEY is now just HEALEY/HILLMAN. With Romney’s negatives so high, how can it help to reinforce Muffy’s role as his loyal underling?
