Updated this morning, 10/12, in order to add the last paragraph .
Has anyone on BMG gotten a Hortonizing robocall from the Healey campaign? I just got an email from a friend which read, in part, “I got an anti-Deval message on my answering machine yesterday. It was really over-the-top, ‘helps rapists,’ the whole nine yards of fear campaigning.” Anybody else getting these?
I do not beleive that my friend is a registered Democrat, and he hasn’t been active in the campaign. So his comment on fear campaigning comes from a pretty detached and non-partisan point of view. It does indeed look like it’s going to be ugly for the next 4 weeks. But out in our neck of the woods, at least, pro-Deval phone calls come from real, live people who identify themselves as neighbors of those they’re calling. We’re going to be making a lot of these calls in the next few weeks. I have to think that works better.
WED.: My friend forwarded the message this morning. It begins, “My name is Laurie Myers, a victim’s rights advocate. I’m outraged by Deval Patrick’s involvement in the Ben LaGuer rape case.” It offers a sinister recounting of the matter and ends by accusing Deval of “going out of his way to side with the criminal.” In my original version of this post, yesterday, I referred to this call as from the Healey campaign–something that I still infer to be the case, in one way or another. But having now heard the recording, I should add: nowhere in this robomessage is there any indication of who is paying for or behind the attack. “My name is Laurie Myers” is the only identifying information in the whole message.
