The foremost point missed in the LaGuer case is that within Worcester County, District Attorney John J. Conte has wielded unbridled power for more than thirty years.
Worcester District Attorney John Conte has never admitted to one false conviction.
Reality defines that this can not be accurate.
The mystical 495 barrier has only just begun to be broken.
In the same era as the LaGuer case, a Caucasian, middle class Leominster man despite being sentenced in 1988 to two concurrent 10-year terms and a five-year term at MCI-Concord for rape never spent one day behind bars.
The victim eventually sought assistance from Boston Attorney, Wendy Murphy who brought the case to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to have the rapist imprisoned
In 2002 the Supreme Court lambasted Worcester District Attorney John J. Conte for botching the case and said James J. Kelly should have been imprisoned.
Genuine questions of conviction and imprisonment are visible in Worcester County.
The inability of the Romney/ Healey administration to review John Contes legal practices after the public reprimand for failing to impression rapist James Kelly should be as topical as the support of Devul Patrick in the LaGuer case.
It certainly does not appear victims rights were a top priority in the Romney/ Healey administration.
Seeking justice should not just be a topic at election time.

I was unaware that Mitt Romney was ABLE to exercise authority over an independently elected Democrat for thirty years.
<
p>
Did he fail to make Mr. Conte brush his teeth and drink his milk as well?
mo-jo says
Becareful about those porcupine needles they do hurt.
<
p>
So only some rapist should go to jail!
<
p>
you see good old Mitt can have his guy, you know the Attorney General, Thomas Reilly, (remember him) who could have his AGAs or remember that quote from the debate in the primary his state police, who incase you don’t know can wield power over the DA and hold him accountable.
<
p>
It is all about checks and balances but hey why should some Republican guy who has worked with Healey care about a rapist right, or now let me get it straight when the guy is black than we pay attention.
<
p>
One more from the Republican scare book, to bad Republicans cant run on the issues.
<
p>
By the way wasnt that Healey who had to give her own campaign 7 million, cause no one else was contributing.
peter-porcupine says
…and he paid for it dearly. Reilly called to REMIND Conte that he didn’t have to release autosy results when a friend of his was involved, but he couldn’t COMMAND him not to.
<
p>
Of course, the snitch in Conte’s office blew the primary for ole Tom.
<
p>
I only hope Tom Reilly is sitting down and holding a cold drink when he reads that he is ‘Mitt’s guy’. More than once, he refused to act at the Governor’s request, citing his independent judgement. Ditto the State Police.
<
p>
Why don’t you work on blaming Mitt for the fact that it will rain Thursday and Friday? And that it will be sunny on Saturday and Sunday because of Deval?
mo-jo says
I have met Mitt, nice guy, yet he still failed to seek out Conte and do anything for the lack of putting that rapist in jail, you know the middle class white guy. Is his rape less of a crime than that of a so the called “spic”?
<
p>
As for Mitt’s guy Tom, remember the big dig fiasco, and that criminal investigation all initiated by your Mitt, carried out by Tom.
<
p>
See they can work together if they want, but I give that they seldom Tango.
<
p>
And no I will not blame Mitt for the rain or sunshine but for allowing this state to swirl downhill while he travels around the country costing us taxpayers dollars you bet.
<
p>
So you know Peter, I did vote for Mitt, I am an independent. I voted for Chris in the primary
<
p>
However, I can not in all good conscious vote for Healey.
<
p>
Healey attack ads only make me like her less.
