Here is what some of our visitors had to say this afternoon:
- World Citizen reports a “Samiyah!” [endorsed by BMG – Bob] drive-by with loud dance music LOL at Ward 3 Precinct 7 in the South End.
- adistius reported a vote for Stein over the disgraced “chicken” Galvin thanks in part to BMG.
- kakraig writes: “Deval passed by Boloco downtown when I was getting my burrito for lunch. Go Deval!”
- mlek reports a “huge turnout in Chelmsford;” says one polling place had 30 people in line; and says poll watchers said turnout was even larger than in presidential election. Patrick/Murray signholders everywhere, all day.
- Lynne (Left in Lowell): “The people in the office we’re using for GOTV calls have said they have NEVER seen the turnout in the middle of the day that they did when they just went out to the polls this afternoon.”
- jamesvw, who says he “personally knows everyone at the polls,” reports great turnout in the Great Barrington precinct.
- PamW notes the hotline for voting problems: 1-866-MyVote1 and 1-866-OurVote.
- mem from somerville: “Good turnout.”
- EJO says there was, “No sign of the opposition at the polls or elsewhere.” [Memo to EJO: check Washington, DC – Bob]
- Peter Porcupine says “Heavy turnout throughout Cape & Islands.”
- NathanielB: “There was much more people than I expected here in Ward 7, precint 2 in Somerville at around 10:30 this morning.”
- tblade: Dorchester – Ward 17, Precinct 9. “In the 90 seconds I spent walking down Washington Street, I was greeted by no less than three GOTV-mobiles, two SUVs with blue Patrick/Murray signs and megaphones blaring recorded GOTV messages. A third vehicle, a black, early 90s Mercedes covered with Patrick/Murray stickers and horn blaring with enthusiasm. Very little visability at the polling spot – one lonely Muffy sign and a supporter holding two Deval signs. It was fairly slow, no line. I cast the 479th ballot at the Codman Square Apartments polling station.”
- Erica (Ward 2 P3 Somerville – Lowell St. Firehouse) “Many fewer than the 45-minute wait, 80-odd-person line we had around the same time of day for the 2004 national election.”
- Michael Forbes Wilcox. “I drove all over hell and gone in Berkshire County, delivering signs, pizza, money — anything that would get us votes.” [OK, OK, “(hey, just kidding about the money!)” – Bob]
Please share widely!
Great response here, lots and lots of honks, thumbs up, people coming to talk about supporting the Patrick/Murray ticket. No opposition standout still. Also, at 2PM we had 292 ballots cast in this smallish, low voter precinct. That’s over a 3rd more than our total turnout in our already high-turnout primary this year!!!

Back to the standout. 3 1/2 hours to go!
Okay, with 13 high school Young Politicians in tow, I and another faculty member gave the kids a whirlwind tour of what election day is like on the inside. First they received a primer from the town clerk in Auburn on what it takes to set up an election. Their own high school was utter chaos as turnout in Auburn was extremely high (over 400 people had voted by 9 AM). Then we were off to coordinated campaign headquarters in Worcester for an overview of what happens on that end, then it was back to Auburn to the AFL-CIO/Steelworkers hall to make GOTV calls. The kids made 537 calls in 2.5 hours this morning. And they scored all the pizza they could eat. What a fabulous day!!

Now, I’m home for a few (just voted myself) and will be getting ready to go into Boston for some dinner and to take in the festivities (with a very rare and hard-to-find ticket–yay!) at the Hynes.
