From the Herald:
Any residual fears of public apathy from elections past are being trampled on this historic day as voters stampede to the polls to choose – among other things – Massachusetts first black or first female governor. As of 12:00 p.m., 58,715 voters in Boston alone – 21.11 percent of the Hubs population – had already cast ballots, according to the state Elections Division.
Pretty cool.

but it would be more meaningful if we could compare it to other years. Also, 58,715 is more like 10% of Boston’s population. I assume they meant the population of either eligible or registered voters. If turnout per hour is the same after 12:00 as before (which may be the case since the post-5:00 time always seems busy), that would bring the total to about 55% of … well, of something.

Having led the city in turnout in the primary, Ward 19, precinct 2 is off and running again, with 743 voters having turned out by 330 pm, more than 50% of our registration, I believe. Tom McDonough of Steve Murphy’s ofice and the Ward 19 Democrats was out there for Deval, talking with Jim Hennigan, father of Maura. Dan Whitney, formerly of the Romney Administration out there for Samiyah. Mayor stopped by about 1030.
