The title of this post was taken from a Beagle article, which I also used as the title on my own blog about Deval’s visit to Pittsfield on Wednesday. I’ve added a few comments and quite a few pix for those who may want to see evidence that this candidate is serious about being “Governor of the whole state.”
Please share widely!

What, no apology for the fact that Deval fled to the Berkshires? Michael, you must not have read today’s McGrory column. There, you would learn that we are not part of the real Massachusetts, and that campaigning in Pittsfield is evidence of a candidate’s cowardliness.

But the hayseeds apparently don’t understand their irrelvance. The people I talked to who got to see Deval in person for the first time during his visit to North Adams (that’s in Nebraska, right?) were thrilled. What do they know? It’s a good thing we provincials have a metropolitian media willing to clear it all up by explaining how we fit–or, rather, don’t fit–into the scheme of things.

I thought the reference to Pittsfield was one of the most offensive things he as written about a community west of Hingham.

It’s an amazing concept this Patrick fellow has come up with. He’s trying to reach out to people west of 128…? He has a running mate from Worcester? Isn’t that in England? Could the fact that Central MA backward folk (Ever seen Deliverance? It’s like that) work as hard as we do have something to do with the fact that he’s been coming here regularly for more than a year asking us what WE need?

Wonders never cease, I tell ya…

The education commissioner held a meeting for Berkshire County superitendents in Marlborough. If Marlborough is Berkshire County, I can understand how Pittsfield can be viewed as Ontario.

You can’t be serious. He couldn’t find the time to travel out there, so he made them all come to Marlborough? That’s crummy.
lightiris says
Maybe the meeting was supposed to be arranged in New Marlborough, but some clerical worker in the MCAS Empire flexed a little intellectual muscle and deemed it a mistake. I’m thinking an MCAS in geography might be indicated….

Yeah, Mark, you’re right. Deval “Cautious” Patrick — you know, the guy who didn’t have the cajones to enter a contest that had been long conceded to the next-in-line, the very same cautious guy who didn’t have the courage to throw away the tried-and-true dirty-tricks playbook — that very same candidate was doing nothing short of hiding from the media and the voters this week. For shame!

While he was avoiding the real voters — you know, the ones inside the 495 beltway — he was spotted by a couple of thousand fake voters out here in the boondocks. And, although I wasn’t in Amherst or North Adams to witness the lack of press coverage there, I can tell you that in Pittsfield there were at least 3 TV crews, 2 radio stations, 2 press photographers, several reporters, and a partridge in a pear tree who were totally uninterested in what he had to say.

In fact, it was a little hard to hear him at times because of those raucous high school students. Why was he talking to them, and then later signing autographs? They don’t vote! Here’s a guy who obviously doesn’t know how things are “supposed” to be done.
<

Too bad McGrory wasn’t paying attention back when things were going the way they were “supposed” to go. Back before Deval motivated all of us to get involved, that is.

Well, don’t worry, after the Election, things will go back to normal.

Yo, Brian, why no put-down on those smaller places?

That being, “Location, location, location.”

Deval was here LAST year! OK, we don’t have the cache of Pittsfield — there’s a grand total of ONE full stoplight in this town, and a couple of blinking ones — but he thought that it was worthwhile stopping by to meet us. That’s more than I can say about any other candidate this past year.
susan-m says
Because his head sure seems to be lodged in the very location depicted in Christy’s commercial.

Great picture MFW. I do believe that’s my congresscritter John Olver? He made an appearance in Townsend (Townsend! Which is NOT in New Hampshire, thankyouverymuch!) last week. Yes, it’s good thing our electeds have access to mapQuest, googlemaps or what-have-you and are not relying on the king makers over at the Boston Globe for directions.

Jeez, no wonder their readership is down…
michael-forbes-wilcox says
You and Lynne should do a comedy show.

Yeah, that’s your Member of Congress (although “Congresscritter” is a good way to degender it, too). He’s been great — a real grassroots guy in his own right. He was back in North Adams again last night at a pasta dinner $5 fundraiser in the American Legion Hall to benefit Ben Downing, our candidate for an open State Senate seat. He walked around the room, stopping at every table, and knew more people than he didn’t, I’d say. He’s been an absolutely great Representative. And he’s about to take over the Chair of one of the powerful Appropriations Committees. [Note the lack of a qualifier!]
