Poor Rev. Haggard. Accused of using methamphetamine and buying sex from another man! Which, if he knows his scripture, would be a sin, and he’s been preaching against while his accuser says he was getting it.
If true, and I’m assuming it is, it is just another round of ultra-gay bashing by a closeted gay, like Ken Mehlman. Too bad they can’t peacefully find their way out of the closet.
Anyway, here is the latest from the NY Times.

This had to break on a Friday, didn’t it? Fortunately, the material pretty much makes itself up. Just an unfortunate coincidence, I guess, that the guy he bought from is better known as an escort than a drug dealer.

There’s something weird about this, though. It seems like he’s trying to confess and just can’t pull the trigger — he admits to the drugs and the massage but not the sex.

Any thoughts on the effect of the story? I don’t see much, beyond maybe impacting the evangelical GOTV in Colorado a little. It’s entertaining, though.

…in that Dem. Jay Fawcett is waging a surprisingly strong campaing for the open congressional seat in Colorado Springs and Marilyn Musgrave, the author of the anti-gay marriage amendment is in a very tight race for her Colorado seat.

So if this story has a negative impact on evangelical turnout in Colorado, it may result in a pick-up of two Dem seats in Congress.

Plus, the state-wide anti-gay marriage ballot question may go down in defeat and that would be so sweet.

Sure he had a massage from a gay prostitute, but the good Rev. says he did not have sex with him.

And the Rev. admits to only buying the crystal meth from the hooker, but the Rev assures us that he threw the meth away without using it.

Isn’t it perfectly reasonable to believe that you can have a massage from a hooker without having sex and you can buy meth so you can throw it away? Besides, what possible connection could there be between using meth and gay sex?

The link has the video interview of the Rev making the claims I just cited and also has one of the voice mails the good Rev left with his drug dealing hooker friend. (Apparently the Rev was looking to throw a whole lot of meth away, in that he was making “another” buy and wanted to buy a fair amount of “inventory”.
