From Matt Stoller who is on the ground in CT:
. . . voter registration, which is sky-high.
More than 86,000 residents registered to vote between May 1 and Tuesday, the deadline. Of those new voters, 38 percent are Democrats, 15 percent are Republicans and 47 percent are unaffiliated, state officials said.
Democrats have long outnumbered Republicans in Connecticut, but the new voters are even more skewed in their favor. Democrats traditionally make up about 33 percent of the state’s voters, while Republicans account for about 22 percent, officials said.
The new registrations bring the total number of voters in Connecticut to 1.9 million, a record for a statewide election in a non-presidential year, officials said.
In addition, the Lamont campaign volunteers are driving GOTV for Democrats all over Connecticut, and there’s a general sense that the field operation for Lamont is much better than that for Lieberman. As to the polls, there’s frustration that Ned went silent after the primary, and that was a mistake. A big mistake. And the party has been terrible, just awful. They haven’t provided the necessary outside artillery to point out that Joe wants us to continue the war in Iraq and is basically dishonest about his entire record. At the end of the day, though, I’m not going to be silent while this country meanders towards another war, and I’m not in politics so Democrats can get better parking spots on Capitol Hill. And neither are you, which is why you’re reading this.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. But you all know that:
Republicans peeling off checks for Joe Lieberman at Mayor Bloomberg’s house Wednesday night were abuzz with the possibility that the Connecticut senator will join their party if reelected Tuesday….
“His Democratic buddies [Sens.] Chris Dodd and Ted Kennedy screwed him,” a Republican guest told us. “People are hoping he’ll switch parties. He votes with the Republicans a lot. He’s one of the last few statesmen.”
One Democrat observed, “It could happen. The Republicans could offer him some big carrots, like chairmanship of the Budget Committee. I think he’s up for grabs.” President Bush praised Lieberman for his pro-Iraq War stance earlier this week.
The thugs came out again today to attack Ned’s bus. Story here. I can’t believe that if Joe was comfortably ahead in the polls he would send goons out to keep Ned from getting off his bus outside a Senior Center.
SO if any of you are inclined to work for a great Progressive candidate against a lying turncoat who will hold the dems hostage if he gets reelected, PLEASE come down to CT. A couple of us MA FIreDogLake rangers have hotel rooms with extra space/beds starting Sat. night through Wed. morning. If you are interested and can do it send me an e-mail.
WE NEED TO DUMP JOE. That’s all there is to it!

In a political enviroGore) actively talki about being Christians, often born-again Christians–why is Lieberman being referred to as “Holy”? Are some ways of being holy easier for us to signle out than others?
revdeb says
Throughout the campaign he has tried to project his piety when in reality the only thing he seems to worship is himself. Those of us following the race closely via FlreDoglake have used many different names for him this among them (this being one of the kinder names). I forgot that I was writing for an audience that probably has not been watching every step of the race as we have at FDL. My bad.

i’m so glad you wrote this diary!

joe is neocon foreign policy-wise, and i expect him to cheerlead an attack on iran, if i comes to that…. from the matt stoller post you quoted:
<
p>
if that wasn’t bad enough joe voted for the MCA aka the pro-torture, indefinate detention, kagaroo courts bill in september.
<

in contrast, ned is an inspiring progressive candidate who genuinely seems to believe in principled, responsible public service.

see you in CT!

Will be helping Ned on Sunday and all day Tuesday; my 7th or so trips down there. Forunately Deval has a big enough lead that I don’t feel guilty.
revdeb says
The momentum is with Ned. We are seriously working this race.
<
p>
If you want to find the rest of us who are working for Ned from the MA FDL group, we will be working out of the Meriden main HQ. just ask for us. We’re becoming known there.
25-cats says
I’ll be at the Meridan HQ Sunday. Tuesday I’m in Willimantic (2nd CD).

You go, RevDeb! If I didn’t have class, I’d be heading on over to Connecticut and hopping in one of those empty beds.

Joe needs to go. He’s the WORST “Democrat” out there – worse than Bill Galvin!!!!!!!
<
p>
He’s anathema to all that is good and pure and we need to send him home and drive a metaphorical stake through his political heart because he represents all that is evil in the US Senate IMHO. I’m not even exaggerating… Joe is evil. Evil evil evil. Not ebil, but evil. The guy could friggin care less that 2800+ American troops have died, or that upwards of 650,000 Iraqis are rotting in their misery. It makes me sick.
<
p>
Then he goes off and says “no one wants the troops home more than” him – as if he actually meant it!!! If he wanted the troops home, he’d be in favor of a friggin pull out. Not only is he not, but as far as he’s concerned Iran’s next. No, those troops will NEVER go home as long as Joe Lieberman has anything to do with it.

If you want to have some impact on the Senate outside Mass borders but Connecticut is a little too far to go, contact the Sheldon Whitehouse campaign down in Rhode Island (there is even a train from South Station to Providence!)Let’s do what we can to change the atmosphere in Washington. And please be sure to get everyone you know to the polls on Tuesday to vote for Deval!

If anyone ever needed 800 lawyers, it is Mitt Romney.

Although I absolutely admire all of the efforts surrounding us to work for House and Senate seats, let’s not forget that our Governor’s race is not over until the voters speak on Tuesday. Let’s also not forget that it would be a bad idea to have our best GOTV people flooding over the borders to work these other races when this race isn’t yet in the books. Let’s lastly remember that, if something were to go terribly wrong and we lost the Gov’s race here in MA, there’s lots of people who would regret terribly not working for the final push and instead working the races in surrounding states.
<
p>
Don’t get me wrong, I understand the importance of the races going on in these districts. I just want everyone to remember that Deval hasn’t won yet. The voters haven’t given him the majority of votes they get do decide on giving out Tuesday, and our efforts should be focused here in electing a great governor and changing fundamentally our politics in MA.
danseidman says
Plenty of us who can’t get to other states over the last few days will be Ging OTV here. Anyone who can get to NH or CT, go for it. Deval and Tim are in good hands.

there are still plenty of locations such as Leominster (hey, it’s closer than CT!) that are looking for help this weekend and on election day. Save the gas and help us elect Deval and Tim.
<
p>
I get the point though — CT and NH are important, but we still have work left to do here at home.
revdeb says
but I’m thinking SUPREME COURT. If Joe wins, he’s sure to flip to the R side of the aislehe owes them big time.

I’ve made calls for Deval and already voted for Deval and the local DTC has all the troops lined up for him. I’ve participated in the caucus to endorse a candidate to replace our great rep who died suddenly 3 weeks ago. I’ve also made calls for her. The local DTC members are armed and ready. I go to CT guilt free.
rollbiz says
We still haven’t won here at home, in MA. So for you to remain guilt-free, you had better hope we do and by a LOT.
<

Want to go help Lamont or Shea-Porter etc…? Fine, I can’t stop you, but… There is still a race going on here, and if we deliver less than a mandate I’ll be honest in saying that I’m looking at those of you who headed out.
<

I appreciate that you’ve been involved, but our work isn’t done yet…

I’m heading down from Groton (MA, that is) to help out tomorrow and to help drive people to the polls on Tuesday. As a Waterbury native, I’m figuring I can be of help there most on Election Day.
