Kerry has come on again, I suspect to introduce Deval. Since folks seem to want color, here is some more:
- The music has been disturbingly focused on the smooth jazz-ish side. They amped it up with a little rock just before Kerry came on.
- Crowd going nuts. They know Deval is about to come out.
- A crush of press has suddenly packed the press gallery. They know Healey has conceded. Only one act left.
- Tim Murray coming up. Curtain goes up on the final act of this election. Crowd on its feet. “Timmy, Timmy,” rocks the hall.

But this is only the beginning. On to 2008.

The large balcony was packed. The large area in front of the press platform was packed. The extremely large area behind the press platform (serviced by 5 large screens so nobody missed a thing) was 3/4 full. The diversity was as inspiring as the speeches. And everybody was hopeful and happy.

The Healey party was next door at the Sheraton and the entire room was about the size of the area in front of the press platform for the Patrick party. The Healey room was about 3/4 full.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the two parties was that Healey campaign workers were working overtime to orchestrate cheers. The instant the campaign worker stopped leading, the people stopped chanting/cheering. The Patrick party had completely spontaneous cheering and chanting which pretty much did not stop. Then energy was exciting!

As an extra treat for me, Mike Dukakis was on the same Green Line train heading home. What a nice guy! And he voted today, to boot!

P.S. If you saw footage of the Healey rally, ours are the upside-down signs during the cheering bit.

were the signs. This was Deval Patrick’s crowning moment, but instead of a hall filled with Patrick signs, or Patrick/Murray signs, what I saw was a sea of “Together we can.”

That spoke as deeply to me as Patrick’s eloquent speech about this being “our” campaign, not just his campaign. It was a great way to show his commitment to the grass roots, to community, and to getting people to “check back in” and stay involved.

I’m looking forward to the Patrick/Murray administration.
