I would very seriously appreciate a discussion however, on the timing of our state’s budget process and the impact upon local communities that have town meetings in the late spring. Governor Patrick will no doubt develop House 1 and have it buttoned up in a timely fashion. Will the House and Senate behave accordingly and get the work done?
It is really an odd experience to go to town meeting with a budget that is a guess-timate because the legislature hasn’t completed the process in a timely fashion that allows towns and cities to prepare accurate budgets. It needs to be fixed. The state budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1st needs to be completed sometime before April 30th, for towns and cities to plan.
