From Josh Marshall. End of year TPM game.
Which is most likely to cause the inevitable collapse of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign?
1. History of ridiculous flip-flops on gay rights.
2. Fact that all he’s ever done in politics is win one gubernatorial election in Massachusetts.
3. Fact that his real first name is Willard.
4. Not a genuine conservative nutjob.
Choose one of these or come up with one of your own.

He is to the left of Ted on Gay Rights issues….

Then you add the long list of accomplishments…um, well he doesn’t have any? Mitt was here four years why does he feel the need to finally do something in the last 4 weeks? That’s the problem. He is getting what he deserves.
His behavior over his career clearly shows that his publicly stated positions are based on political calculation much more than they are by personal conviction. Voters like heart-felt conviction. That is why a nut case like Ross Perot could do as well as he did. I think this is also a big factor in John Kerry’s loss.

Did I predict that Hillary was going to win?
I think he would be lucky to come in 2nd in NH.
I’ve been keeping up with reaction to the Mittster’s flip-flops on gay rights in the conservative and southern press. George Will put it most succinctly when he spoke of the appearance of “convertability of conviction.” Meanwhile, the southern press is just starting to focus attention on his Mormon religion, which is widely considered a cult by evangelicals. My brother, a Mississippi native now a lawyer in a large New York firm, says it doesn’t take much to push southerners’ discomfort level with a Mormon candidate over the turn-off threshold. Despite his press attention of late the Mittster is not a significant presence in polls of southern Republicans. And to think of all he’s done to win southern hearts and minds, making Massachusetts the butt of his jokes in order to charm them.
I think the latter will actually be the killer for him. Most people could care less about gay rights, but a vast majority have something strong to say about choice. He’s waffled on it too much for either side to trust him, and tha’s a huge handicap.
i should have said, the vast majority don’t care about gays NOT having rights. the majority do begin to care (in an angry and negative way) when gays get close to equal civil footing with heteros.
I think it will be his refusal to dissavow the Mormon Transhumanist nutjobs. Is he a Mormon Transhumanist nutjob?
