How can today’s tortured passage of the anti-gay-marriage petition fit that description?
Easy. It marks the beginning of the end of the “rogue court” argument against same-sex marriage.
The court-ordered genesis of same-sex marriage has been the best argument available to the anti crowd, far more persuasive than the vile “Adam & Steve” style homophobia the fringe right favors. But that argument peaked earlier today.
I think he makes a fair point. The political middle highly resents democracy abridged. Taking the long view, same-sex marriage proponents may look back on today as the beginning of a larger victory.

Not that it is bad to think about how to move forward, but there is no way this is a win. (Not even for Article 48.)
