Not that I have to worry about getting into a club anymore, but come on.

One time, before Hurricane Katrina, Menino visited New Orleans, looked around and asked, “What’s this city got that we don’t got?”

Ummmm…it’s fun? Recently, MSN came out with a list of the top 50 spots in the world for a good time on New Year’s Eve. Boston did not crack the top 50.

Of course I love it here, and Boston has a lot more to offer than a good time at night. But why can’t we be all that we are AND be seen as a fun place to live?
<

Not for nothing, but a lot of our conversation on this site centers around what we can do to stimulate the economy and create jobs. Well, how does it help Boston to encourage people to stay home at night?

Anyway, maybe I’m jumping the gun on this. I’d sure like to know more about it though.
I am still digging for information on this issue. I found out beause last night embassy nightclub, one of two nightclubs that offers an 18+ gay night in Boston went 21+ and blamed the mayor. Also check out this myspace page: myspace.com/protestthemayor they seem to be planning a protest in response to this.
THere are thousands and thousands of 18-21 year old students in this city who will not be able to go out and party until they are seniors in college.
There is just no reasonable explaination for this other than adultism. They will talk about drinking and drunk driving etc. etc. But might I remind folks that in the netherlands and all of europe where the legal drinking age is low but the culture is different they do not see as big a problem as we do with drinking. And in the netherlands where marijuana is legal they have some of the lowest hard drug use rates.
I’m afraid the 18+ crowd will start driving to providence (where nightlife if fleurishing), and heaven for bid they do get alcohol from friends or someone, they won’t be taking a cab back to boston!

Hasn’t he repeatly attempterd to defelct responsibility for problems in Boston on the universities and students?

When the Boston PD was not prepared for crowds and chaos after one or more of the Super Bowls, and the 2004 World Series, didn’t he blame the colleges?
<

I have always thought that he uses the colleges and the students as a convenient scapegoat for far greater problems.
it’s news to me.
