From the excellent tallies prepared by SK-Jim, here is the list of legislators who did everything wrong yesterday: voted YES on the anti-marriage amendment, and voted NO on discharging the health care amendment from committee, thereby both trampling on the rights of gay people and violating their constitutional oaths. of the ones who won’t be coming back? Do you think the gay marriage vote can be stopped in the next session with the new blood?

They were sworn in today.

And, no, there’s not enough “new blood” to stop the marriage amendment.

You’d already identified them as Democratic…nevermind.

Scott Brown (R-Wrentham) was the sole Republican who voted with the above Democrats.

How many of these Democrats were challenged by Republicans who were to their left on social issues in 2002? I know that Bob Creedon was, and I suspect that David Flynn was as well. This is a time that makes it hard to be a Democrat.

Go the way of the Dodo.

Even legislators who voted the right way should be contacted and held accountable for the outcomes. If all they did was vote, then they didn’t do enough to try to stall, recess, lobby their collegues or pressure leadership to do the right thing.

Those who voted the wrong way should be called. Those who voted the right way should be called and told how yesterday did not bring credit to the legislature. Every legislator should be able to tell the leaderhsip “I’m getting killed in my district because of this”. It doesnt’ take that many phone calls.

I am going to the inaugural ceremony tomorrow and will stop by both my legislators offices to tell them my disappointment in yesterday’s outcomes.
