Kudos to sco, who notes that South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint’s endorsement of Mitt Romney for President might, just might, be based on something other than Romney’s $tellar con$ervative credential$.

Sen. DeMint’s endorsement was meant, at least in part, as a push-back against Sen. McCain. There is a fissure in the South Carolina Republican Party between those who, in 2000, supported McCain (i.e., Gov. Sanford and Sen. Graham) and those who supported President Bush (i.e., Sen. DeMint). As I understand, a lot of conservatives in the state have never been happy with Sanford and Graham (and McCain, as was clear from the 2000 primary).
