Don’t you just love this climate changing, greenhouse gassing, global warming little planet of ours? We are truly blessed to be living during the start of what can only be called the golden age of global warming.
I’m sick of reading all the whining about climate change. Just think of the possibilities:
See what I mean, all it takes is a little change of perspective. Just think of how happy Shackleton would be. So let’s stop all the whining and enjoy these next couple of years while we can. Meanwhile I’ll be investing in some ocean front property in the Berkshires.

I don’t know whether to laugh or be frustrated by your post. Laugh because I sense the sarcastic tone. I enjoy good sarcasm.

Frustrated because I also sense defeat. I hope my senses are wrong an you are not defeated.

I’ve spent the last two days learning the Al Gore Presentation “An Inconvenient Truth.” Above all it contains a message of hope.

We can solve this problem. Please don’t give up.

Smart Mass, that’s great what you are doing. I do have a question though. I recall from the movie that the “what each of us can do” message at the end was a bit thin. Has Gore & co. come up with a more concrete list of actual ways people can make a meaningful difference? I confess its been 6 months or so since I saw the movie, so my memory is fading. Maybe there was more there than I’m recalling?

As an aside, I was disappointed that many of the ‘Gore in contemplation’ scenes showed him driving, and in an SUV. I know you’re not responsible for the making of the movie, but those scenes didn;t exactly send a personal responsibility message on par with the overarching message of the film.

Yes.

His first recommendation was to get his book. His book has specific recommendations.
and I have watched “An Inconvenient Truth”. Keep up the good work.
The acoustics of the Hatch Shell will be improved, I’m sure, once it’s under 20-40 ft of water. We can listen to Debussy’s La Mer, Britten’s Four Sea Interludes, and Beethoven’s Calm Seas and Prosperous Journey. BMG might even be able to stage the Flying Dutchman.

Despite my strong belief in the gradual increase in global temperature, this weekend is not explicitly due to global warming. We are in an El Nino weather pattern year, when tidal flows across the upper southern Pacific slow down and change the system of highs and lows across the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. As a result, the Pacific Northwest and Rockies get a miserable, moist winter and the eastern half of the continent enjoys a mild, less harsh winter. It’s happened before; it will happen again.

It’s a shame that “global warming” were not such an obvious pattern to people, corporations and governments – because perhaps there would be more motivation to change our behavior. But today’s great weather is not attributable to the man-made phenonmenon. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I’m just counting the days until the ocean laps serenely outside my apartment. I can see it now…

In England, new homes are REQUIRED to include solar panels, and other energy saving and engergy-independent features.
The US Green Building Council has developed and is promoting standards in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It would be a sin if these (or their equivalent or better) are not adopted immediately by the new administration for all public buildings, and if our towns fail to make the standards part of their zoning and building ordinances. And a comment on El Nino, if I may. It is not so much the tidal flow (that is a twice a day phenomenon), as opposed to major ocean current change, wind change, etc etc, where the prevailing flow of heat towards Indonesia reverses (or just dies), with major climate effects around the world. Now I ain’t no meteorologist, but if you want to sound like a real ENSO (El Nino/Southern Oscilliation) smarty pants, go to the NOAA website on El Nino which has more information than I could ever understand.
some legislation coming soon on this. I was asked by an assistant to one of our state reps about this while they were writing legislation for the environment.
