From Christine McConville & Jonathan Saltzman in the Globe, comes a report that the Inspector General found five builders who hid profits of affordable housing developments. (Read the whole thing.) The IG is calling on developers to return their excessive profits to the towns who were supposed to get that money. This is an important step in improving our communities in two ways: 1) towns need that money to provide services for the people in those developments, and 2) developers who follow the rules deserve a fair marketplace to compete in–and rigorous oversight like this helps check unscrupulous businesses who would unfairly take up the land & financial opportunities that honest developers deserve a chance at.

Does our state auditor do anything? Really — why is it always the AG or IG or the media that learn these things. What exactly does DeNucci do in his office all day?
