RALLY FOR BARACK OBAMA, SATURDAY FEBRUARY 10, COPLEY SQUARE, BOSTON @ 1PM.
MASSACHUSETTS DRAFTOBAMA.ORG TO SPONSOR RALLY ON DAY OF OBAMA ANNOUNCEMENT.
The DraftObama.org movement will hopefully have reached its successful conclusion on Saturday February 10, when Barack Obama is to announce his decision on whether he will be a candidate for President of the United States. The Massachusetts Chapter of DraftObama.org is sponsoring a public rally on the day of his announcement, in Copley Square, Boston at 1 pm.
State organizers have been working for several months on growing an army of supporters in Massachusetts, and the group hopes to send a message to Democrats around the state, as well as to the candidate himself, that Barack Obama has real and vigorous support. DraftObama.org has grown from a single webpage created by Ben Stanfield, a computer technician in Rockville, MD, to a nationwide, state by state, all-volunteer effort with thousands of petition-signers and volunteers. Rallies are being planned in several states to coincide with Obama’s announcement.
“The grassroots enthusiasm for encouraging Senator Obama to run for President is truly phenomenal,” said one of the event coordinators, Joshua Abrams. “The rally we’re scheduling for February 10 should really put that on display, with individual supporters being given a chance to say what Obama’s candidacy would mean to them. And it clearly means a lot to people. There’s an excitement surrounding him that’s been missing from national politics for a long time. We hope this rally will be the perfect kickoff to a hugely successful primary season for Senator Obama.”
The event will be held in Copley Square starting at 1 pm, across the street from the Boston Public Library. Organizers will be distributing literature and gathering names of volunteers, and rally participants will have a chance to speak to the crowd about why they believe in Senator Obama. “Every citizen should, and will, have a voice in Senator Obama’s campaign, and this rally reflects that,” said the coordinator of Massachusetts DraftObama.org, Ross Neisuler. “This will be the culmination of a real grassroots effort here in Massachusetts and across the country.”
In addition, Obama himself will be in New Hampshire on Monday, Feb. 12, appearing at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
