Interesting news from the WaPo/ABC pollsters (HT: TP). Asked whether they would support a congressional effort sponsored by Rep. Jack Murtha (D-PA) to block President Bush’s proposed escalation of the Iraq war by
creating new rules on troop training and rest time that would limit the number of troops available for duty in Iraq
the poll’s respondents said “yes” by a convincing margin of 58% – 39%, with only 4% undecided. Asked whether they supported cutting off funding, they said “no” by 46-51.
Also interesting is the fact that the WaPo’s article on its own poll fails to mention the public’s strong support of Murtha’s plan — to find that out, you have to dig way down through the poll’s crosstabs. But that, surely, cannot be connected in any way to the fact that the WaPo’s editorialists are on record as strongly opposing Murtha’s plan. Because there’s no doubt an impenetrable firewall between the WaPo’s reporting and editorial operations, as there is in every major newspaper.
And the media folks wonder why there’s just the teensiest bit of cynicism out there as to whether the press is trustworthy.
The press might not be completely trustworthy?! When did this happen.
