Howie Carr’s father was high-end help for the very rich in a swanky Palm Beach hotel and other places. Howie had an upfront seat to the realities of class, entitlement, arrogance, pride and more at a world class level. At Deerfield Academy he was the son of the hired hand surrounded by more privileged wombats. Then off to North Carolina where he saw the southern version of the wasps he’d been growing up with..
After that, we won him. (please don’t believe he is from Somerville – he was yuppy) The names and players change, the circumstances change, but people are people. With a great memory, good turn of the phrase, and extensive note keeping, Howie has became king of mean.
He always goes the extra mile or 10 to make the reader sympathize with his prey. Usually it is someone who deserves to be brought down; many times not. Howie’s enjoyment in tormenting causes one to wonder if something is not right up there. Pointing out in print the size of a woman politician’s ass is not, how you say, normal.
Today Howie gleefully wants Tom Finneran to be put in jail. Yeah it is good publicity for both their programs but that seems to be the side benefit. What makes Howie enjoy being mean?
Funny, years ago Howie never said a bad word about Tom Finneran. Or Richie Voke (the guy who almost became speaker).
Then all of a sudden Howie turns on Finneran with a vengeance. Voke, the confirmed bachelor from Chelsea and a man just as intelligent as Finneran with a mean streak as bad as Howie’s would probably mesh well with Howie. Each using the other for everything he is worth. (funny, even with Chelsea connection Howie never dumped on Voke – yet Chelsea was always a favorite easy mail-it-in column for him and Voke could have easily been brought into Howie’s 6th degrees of separation shtick. And he knew who all the players were, funny).
By the way, Howie’c claim of witness intimidation is without merit. It has to be a material witness. Maybe Judge Stearns will hold hearings and hold Howie in contempt for using the federal judicial system witha bad faith publicity stunt claim.

So any hoo, Howie gets divorced and wants his papers sealed. And gets them sealed. He says that was at the ex-wife’s request. Sure Howie.
