The Great Navigator replied:
“While I know sail and star, only the local pilots know where the rocks are located, how to find the hidden channels, and the currents that are unique to this port.
My success results from knowing what I know, and what I do not know.
Therefore, I always hire local pilots because I do not know where every hidden local danger is, every rock and current – but the local pilots know these things as they must. The stars do not change, but no two ports are alike and even the greatest navigator cannot know what a local pilot must know to survive.”

…but the parable holds all the same. As a “good parable” it applies in more than one set of real facts.
