Is it appropriate to put a teaser in one blog to corral traffic on to another blog? This isn’t cross-posting (putting the whole entry on two or more blogs) nor is it a signature at the end of a post advertising for a blog.

This is a teaser with a link to another blog.

Is that appropriate? Charley/David/Bob? LInL/PP/Ryan? Others?
I did a similar thing this morining – instead cross-posting a lengthy post about Mass. Republicans for Truth, I referred to my bolg in the commnents.

If that is wrong, let me know.

embedding in BMG comments links to pertinent diaries on your own blog is perfectly legit, as far as I am concerned.

but a flag did go up for me when i read this diary. not that i feel it is “wrong”, more i feel it is pathetic. this guy tried posting full diaries before, and got little to no response. he tried posting comments, but that failed too because they were hit & run only and made little sense. he is hungry for attention, and so composes these inane diaries to funnel traffic to his blog. i think it’s sad. i hope he comes to realize that people will gladly discourse with him, when he sets out something worthwhile to discourse on and actually follows up with dialogue.

You didn’t create a diary with the express interest of pulling readers off of the BMG site to your own site. You posted a comment linking to where you had already written extensively on a subject that some other diarist wrote about. That’s a huge difference for me.

You want to use this blog to advertise? Put a link to your blog in your sig, and write interesting posts here to gain credibility and clicks. Or, buy banner ads. But it seems suspect to write a teaser diary with the content on another blog. If you maintain more than one blog, that’s cool — double post, or convince an editor of this site to post a diary linking to yours. What francislholland did just doesn’t sit well with me, although I can’t quite put a finger on why… which is why I asked the editors here, as well as other bloggers on this site who do have strong credibility (and I may have missed some — the list of PP, LinL, and Ryan isn’t exhaustive).

…if the blogger doesn’t toot his or her own horn, it’s unlikely that he or she will get much traffic.

If you click on the blog and you like what you see, go back. If you don’t ignore it. It isn’t that complicated.

At least it’s not an ad for Viagra (or at least I presume it isn’t, I didn’t click) which you see on other comment threads.
