Out of curiosity, does ANYONE have a link to a site that, without beating up anyone politically on EITHER side, can tell us (dispassionately!):
All the Presidents since, say, Roosevelt, who have, in fact, fired US Atorneys initially, within, say, six months of taking office?
How many attorneys, IN FACT, were fired?
All the presidents who SUBSEQUENTLY fired Attorneys?
How many attorneys they SUBSEQUENTLY fired?
Please share widely!

See above. And, who’s “THEY?”

I don’t have a link but according to the economist, upon taking office Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and our current president replaced all 93 US attorneys with their own picks.

read here why that is not controversial, never was and never will be.

Since I wrote my plantive request, I have, indeed, “conducted my own research as suggested above. Both David and I have posted researched articles on the subject, including a “who fired whom” list from each of us.

I also note that Rove’s comment was a little off-base (the comment regarding the fact that Clinton fired all of them, and installed his own people. This is a common practice when a new president of a different party than the last, takes office. Bush43 replaced all but two. Clinton replaced all 93. Reagan replaced all 93. In all three cases, the White House changed parties with the incoming president. See my other post on this subject for citations.

…regarding the two US Attys that Bush II did not replace when he came into office. If they were installed as US Attys while the Republicans were in the majority in the Senate, that would mean that they would have had to be acceptable not only to Clinton, but also to the Republicans in the Senate at the time in order to be confirmed.

Context matters.

Can’t seem to find any names. Will try a nexus search later. Meantime, I came across this rather interesting article from the San Diego paper, dated January 2007, regarding Carol Lam. Check it out, all.
