http://news.bostonhe… regarding the role and duties of the First Lady of the Commonwealth is a good reminder that there is no constitutional role or official governmental duties for the spouse of the Governor…or any other elected official.
The whole notion of “buy-one-get-one-free” is just not applicable to elected leaders, yet the expectation has crept into the political arena as politicians’ families are called on to help win the race. And when the contest is over those same campaigners become “unelected spokespersons.”
It’s not fair. It’s not necessary.
Diane Patrick, Esq. is a dynamic attorney who has a full career of her own to pursue and family to care for…
Deval Patrick is our Governor who has any number of competant people in his administration who can fill in for him at official events and issue meetings as part of the job they are being paid to do for him.
There is no need to burden Diane Patrick with her husband’s career…and there should be no expectation from the public that Diane Patrick has any official duty to fulfill. She is a great, accomplished woman with a full plate of her own, which trumps any first lady title.
