Well, this is pretty good news for Passoni and those in the South End. But I fear it could be the best the South End does. With the Southie Old Irish Old Boys (Google it) splitting 75% of the vote, it could be another long, cold two years for the South End. That said, coming in first does say something for Passoni’s organizational skills, and in a race with such little turn out (there’s likely to not be much more than the 17% there was today in the general next month), organization can be helpful. Plus, being able to say she “won” the primary will help create a buzz and a tiny bit of a sense of inevitability. But, given the scare the Mayor got with the race for Scapicchio’s seat earlier this cycle, I’m sure he’s not going to risk letting a smart, over-qualified candidate from a low-voter area (South End) win over a qualified loyalist lifer from a vote-rich area (Southie) prevail. I think we can predict that City Hall will be a ghost-town on the date of the general…

That said, Passoni will certainly be out there going through the shoe leather hard, and perhaps a bunch of the new folks living in District 2 will be more inclined to support her than Linehan. With her bucks and savvy, she may be able to prevail. I hope she does, because the South End is far more important to Boston than Southie is these days. (Wait for it…wait…hold on…). KIDDING. Who is Barbara Lynch supporting?
