20 minutes is all it would take for you to help Fitchburg Access TV finish its Memorial Day Project, the reading names of soldiers who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq. 20 minutes is what it takes to read 300 names, the number FATV has decided to ask this project’s volunteers to read. 20 minutes is what it took me to read 300 names, partway through the letter C. 20 minutes is what it took a friend of mine to read 300 names, the letter D and part of the letter E. Neither she nor I found this too hard or too nerve-wracking to do tonight. But the significance of what we were doing wasn’t lost on us. Neither was the fact that the project coordinator has only found enough volunteers to get her to the letter E. She has 21 more letters to go–and, sadly, thousands more names. She said she’s going to get through the list of “war on terror” fallen soldiers even if she has to do it herself. It would be more meaningful if she has lots of help. To sign up to help, send an email to donna@fatv.org. (FATV is located at 175 Kimball Street, the corner of River Street, Rollstone Street and Kimball Street, in Fitchburg.)
Thank you,
Jammadi
