Once again, reality does not favor Willard Romney. You may recall a recent post exploring the inconveniences of having, as his campaign slogan, First, Not France. Inconvenient because:
But the latest news out of France is really going to whither Willie: The hyper-conservative Sarkozy has won the presidential election. This guy is by far tougher on immigrants and pansies than Willard even pretends to be (pretends being the operative word – Willard has proven his positive concern for LGBT welfare. But I digress…). Bummer when your political foil turns out to be more effective at your line than you are. Nothing left for but for Willard to try a little SciFi.

“Willard gave himself to France as a youth (spent 2 years evangelizing France for the Mormons.”

I heard mormons have to spend 2 years of their lives traveling and recruiting. What an obligation. How old was he when he did that?

as i understand it, it is college age people who go on these missions. i guess that would mean he was probably in france in the late 60s or early 70s. not surprisingly, his campaign biography does not mention it.

While he was there, he got in a terrible car wreck and almost died. The campaign keeps it hush hushy.

I hadn’t heard about that, so went digging and found this in the Washington Post.
Wow, not sure I could have laughed that one off.

In a more serious vein, the Vancouver Sun reports today that a big government-sponsored study concluded that kids do just as well with same-sex as with different-sex parents, and perhaps even a smidge better.

The study was commissioned by the former Liberal government, but [surprise surprise] the results were apparently withheld by the current Tory government. It took a freedom of information request by a university professor to force a copy from Mr Harper’s loving embrace. So far, I have not been able to find a link to the study itself. Hopefully the prof, Dr. Hastings, will post it soon.

oh well, willard likes to talk about the importance of family and of kids having 2 parents, so maybe this was the best place to post this after all.
