But we are making it tough on ourselves.”

The entire question of immigration has shifted away from anything resembling rational policy analysis, and has now become this law enforcement/national security thing that the Republicans are wrapping themselves up in.

I noticed on Mike Barnicle’s show yesterday that when Michael Graham was referring to illegal aliens he was actually calling them something like “criminal immigrants.” That’s clever. Of course, he missed his big opening to coin the national, neo-con phrase “crimmigrants.”
