I won’t catch it tonight, but maybe I can catch it on the web tomorrow. Anyway, I’m not expecting Donato to announce a great change in the course of the interview — although that would certainly be welcome.

Just watched Keller’s segment on WBZ. Story was about attempts by Deval Patrick and Sal DiMasi to sway Donato to vote against sending the amendment to the voters.

According to Donato, he won’t be changing his vote. He said he will suffer the consequences.

Just as I expected.

I cling to a tiny shred of hope that he is using some Clintonesque slicing of the meaning of words here. He may not change his vote, but could still simply call in sick on Thursday. Not that I’m saying that will happen, but it would save me a hell of a lot of work volunteering for his opponent over the next year.

Or maybe Donato thinks he’s screwed either way so he’s trying to “stick to his convictions.” I mean, even if he does change this vote, Donato is still anti-choice, and still out-of-tune with New Medford.

But if he actually votes for this amendment, the HRC, MassEquality, and a whole lot of local volunteers will take him down for sure.

Another legislator echoing the “the people have the right to vote” line. But the Constitution says the people have the right to vote if they collect the signatures AND two consecutive joint sessions approve the measure. The idea that the legislative votes would be required if “the people had the right to vote,” defies logic. But then, discrimination has never been rooted in any kind of reason at all.

I don’t actually think Donato isn’t bright — I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. Donato is trying to hide behind the right to vote line to hide the fact that, despite his claims to the contrary, he opposes equality for gay and lesbian couples.

More than a little disingenuous from a politician who worked to prevent citizens from having a vote on the health care amendment. Here is the bluemassgroup discussion from back in January.

He opposes marriage and families. What a wretch.

No amount of arm twisting this late in the game can change the outcome.
