  1. My wife and I saw this show in January.  If you have a chance, it is a good time.  Great setting, funny and thought-provoking show… just a good night out.

    The night we went out, there were two dittoheads sitting behind that obviously had no idea what they were in for.  They spent the first 20 minutes whispering the standard uninformed talking points before they stormed out.  Somehow that added to my enjoyment level.

In April, Jimmy Tingle hosted a fund-raiser at his theater for Somerville Alderman-at-Large Candidate Jack Connolly that helped pay for Connolly’s race-baiting attack against his progressive opponent, Marty Martinez. (Disclosure: I was Marty’s campaign manager). The attack was reminiscent of misleading negative attacks targeted at Deval.

    Here’s what progressive stalwart, State Representative Denise Provost, had to say about it:

    You may have seen it – Marty, in profile, seeming to look down smilingly on a sinister fellow in a hooded sweatshirt. I was shocked at this low, deceitful image.

    First of all, plenty of people looking at this picture will think it is an actual photograph, and not a composition incorporating “clip art.” For any viewer, Marty is shown as elevated above (think: “Gang Lord”) and looking approvingly upon a stereotypic – if generic – “criminal type.” And, guess what? Both of them are – or appear to be – “Latino.”

    The success of this “guilt by [ethnic] association” message can be measured in various ways. One of the most striking occurred when I was standing out with Marty near the Dilboy Post on election day, and a car full of young men drove past. “Vote for Jack Connolly, All-American!” screamed one – who clearly got the message.

    Jimmy has yet to apologize for financing this attack and standing by Connolly throughout. Until he does, you won’t find me at his theater.
