Please read the beautiful and moving words of the woman whose marriage to a white man was the basis of the landmark 1967 civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia. I’m not going to quote an excerpt, because Mildred Loving’s statement really needs to be read straight through. (By the way, credit to Raj for providing a link to Loving’s words in a comment; I think she merits a post.)
Also, here is ABC video footage of a 1967 interview with Mildred and Richard Loving.

…Ed Brayton over at Dispatches From The Culture Wars for the link. That’s where I first saw Mrs. Loving’s statement.

I wonder if the Lovings were accused of pursuing The Miscaginationists Agenda in their time? But it is crystal clear in that letter that the Lovings weren’t out to pick a fight – they just wanted to be together, and be left alone to create a family near their larger families in Virginia. That is all I want, too. I’m proud to be in such very fine company. Thank you Mrs. Loving for your words today, and your pursuit of justice 40+ years ago.
