According to today’s Lowell Sun Nikki Tsongas has raised one million dollars. They report she has $525,000 on hand about $125,000 than Finegold’s number. It will be interesting to see what Eileen Donoghue and Jamie Eldridge report.
On the Republican Side Jim Ogonowski has raised in the ballpark of $170k but my gut tells me that once the late checks are counted it will be a little higher. My gut tells me all the reported numbers will be a little higher.
On the Democratic side, only Tsongas and Andover state Rep. Barry Finegold have voluntarily reported their fundraising totals to date.
Finegold campaign officials said they had raised about $400,000 in the period between April 1 and June 30, about $710,000 in all.
Tsongas campaign officials said they have raised more than $1 million from 2,000 individual donors during the first four months of the campaign, and now have about $575,000 cash on hand.

Niki Tsongas raised a million and dropped ten points in the polls. What did she spend all that money on? Keep up the good work Niki!!!

Clever Mr. Bo. Believe everything you read in the Lowell Sun? They didn’t ask any questions about the poll or methodology. Eileen’s their candidate, hello? Wait until Michael Moore does the Lowell SUN movie. That will be a real shocker! This was just a way to distract before the fundraising figures come out.

Go to .08 Acres and read sco’s questions you need to ask on a poll. He’s pretty sharp and objective.

If Niki raises $1m, you criticize her for falling behind.

If Niki raised half the amount, you’d criticize her for falling behind on money.

Did you expect that in a five candidate race, a four month campaign would leave the frontrunner with the same percentage as day one?

Then why have none of the candidates, other than Miceli who is irrelevent, come out and responded to the numbers? Talk about diversions, isn’t releasing fundraising numbers a diversion to bad poll numbers?

In addition, yes, polls are not always scientific but they do give an indication on how the electorate is feeling and it looks like most people are undecided.
will-w says
Polls are an indicator, if they’re accurate. Donoghue used two different polling firms, which means you’ll likely have two different methodologies and sets of questions. So where’s the standard of measurement? Also, there are reports she used her own campaign workers to make the calls.

You have a point on the fundraising as another way to influence the debate. However, since candidates have to file with the FEC, the records are public and can be verified. So if Niki claims $1 million or better, she has to back it up. Don’t think Eileen will release her poll or let the press speak with her pollster (the first or second one).
<

I’ll bet that Finegold is out there polling like crazy as we speak so he can tell everyone how his chances have improved too. Eileen’s claims are directed not only at weakening Tsongas’ look of inevitability, but tend to place Barry and Jamie in a marginal class. That’s unlikely true, but who really knows.

I’m still waiting (it’s been a while) for Donoghue to tell us why she registered as an Independent. Too much spin in that campaign and this is more of the same.

Way to go EMILY’s list–God forbid your members use their money to take out Republicans and people who don’t support abortion rights.

…I had been led to believe that Emily’s List was devoted to trying to get more women elected to the various legislatures. Not so much to take a stand on abortion rights, regardless of the candidates’ stands on abortion rights.

If that’s the case, I can understand them supporting middle-of-the-road-on-choice woman, against a far-pro-choice man, if they believe that the woman could be elected.

EMILYs List wins elections. Since our founding, we have helped elect 56 pro-choice Democratic women members of Congress, 11 senators, and 7 governors. We win by looking for the best opportunities and the most qualified candidates to take advantage of them.
