The Simpsons movie is coming to Springfield. But which one?
In case you hadn’t heard, there’s a contest going on to decide which of fourteen Springfields across the country will get to host the premiere of the Simpsons movie on July 27. USAToday is hosting the contest, and each Springfield has submitted a video in support of its bid. Our ace in the hole, of course, is our senior Senator, the inspiration for the cartoon Springfield’s Mayor Quimby, who makes a cameo in the MA video. [UPDATE: I just got an email from Kennedy’s campaign committee urging a vote for Springfield, MA! Good to know he’s on the case.]
So do your civic duty, and head on over to USAToday to vote for Springfield, MA! (Note: I found the video-watching interface to be buggy in Firefox, but it seems to work in IE.)
Take a look at the video from Springfield, Nebraska. It’s a hoot.
This is all very nice for Springfield, MA, and I hope “we” win. Doesn’t it bother anyone, though, that a movie is getting all this free media attention? I heard this covered as a news story on the radio, in addition to seeing it in BMG now.

All (or many) of the videos in the “competition” appear to have been produced by the same company. (I admit I watched only three of them.)

I voted for Mass., but it looks to me as if Oregon has made a strong case for itself.
All the videos were produced by independent filmmakers in each city or town. The studio sent each city the same props — the couch, a video camera, some yellow paint, a couple other things.

Sure, it’s free publicity for the Simpsons, but it’s also free publicity for an often-overlooked city in this state. We could use all we can get.
It is possible to see the results on that page by highlighting the hidden text under each state’s star.

Let’s get some of that Boston-area population behind us. We in Springfield can’t do this alone. Together we can!
