After reciting the history of the case, the first half of the opinion deals with legal issues such as jurisdiction, standing, mootness, etc. The Full Faith and Credit Clause analysis begins on page twenty-five. It is a well reasoned, if not very exciting, opinion that avoids public policy arguments and 14th Amendment issues completely. Despite its quiet holding the opinion is groundbreaking and is certain to be appealed to the SCOTUS. Even with the conservative bend of the current Court, I have a hard time imagining how this ruling could be overturned without twisting the Constitution into a pretzel. The textualist and original intentalists on the Court, it seems to me, would have no choice but to make flagrant hypocrites of themselves to overturn this ruling.
