A week old, but still useful: The Line by the Washington Post’s Chris Cilizza. Republicans are having trouble, he writes, recruiting good candidates. The fiasco in Iraq might have something to do with this.
[T]he lack of “A” recruits is worrisome for a party that must defend 22 Senate seats in 2008. In order to avoid a landslide next November, Republicans must play offense in a handful of Democratic-held states. There is still time for Republicans to land major recruits, but the early returns are not promising.
Please share widely!
I offered a pretty thorough look at the status of NRSC recruiting for 2008 on MyDD a week and a half ago, and, a few days ago, I analyzed whether current NRSC Chair John Ensign is actually worse than last cycle’s NRSC Chair, Liddy Dole.

for all the work you put into your blog. Great content; I really enjoy reading it.
We definitely pick up Sunnunu and Collins seats making Judd Gregg the sole surviving New England Republican in the Senate and probably in Congress (Chris Shays days are numbered). We replace their Warner with our Warner. I see Gordan Smith barely hanging on due to lack of strong challengers and dissatisfaction with state Dems.

Other than that all Dem defensive plays are hold meaning we will have a four seat majority in the Senate. Id say dissatisfaction with the Dem Congress, most people liking their individual GOP Senators even though they dislike the brand as a whole, and a typical close polarizing Presidential election preventing a wave. If however the Dems nominate a great candidate, the Republicans a radical one, and dissatisfaction in general peaks up we could see another Wave giving the new President a solid governing coalition.
Gregg would not be the sole New England Republican in the Senate. You forgot Snowe.
And perhaps we should include Joey down in CT as well
