I read in the Globe this morning this story detailing the development project over the turnpike behind Fenway Park. Developer John Rosenthal outlined the project to the BRA yesterday. The Globe reports Rosenthal “negotiated’ with the city and local organizations “including the Red Sox” in reaching an agreement. The story reminds us of the Globe’s relationship with Red Sox ownership and then quotes a Red Sox V.P. who said “the organization supports Rosenthal’s plans.”
Nice story.
But wait!
Later on I read the Herald story on the same development plan.
Check this out:
Scott Van Voorhis leads off with:
“A local developer and the Boston Red Sox [team stats] yesterday unveiled a $400 million plan to build offices, shops and apartments alongside and over the Massachusetts Turnpike near Fenway Park [map].
“Newton-based builder and prominent anti-gun activist John Rosenthal and the Red Sox presented the 1.2-million-square-foot One Kenmore proposal to a community review panel appointed by City Hall.
“The move comes after months of talks resulted in an agreement in principle by Rosenthal and the Sox to work together as joint venture partners on the One Kenmore development. The Sox will also become minority investors in the project, with a final agreement expected to be approved soon by John Henry?s Sox ownership group.
” ‘It’s a true joint venture,’ Rosenthal said. “We are presenting (plans) together. I will be the lead developer.”
Even I don’t go that low.
He’s been on the development beat for a while and has covered the Red Sox business side quite a bit. So he knew of the connection. Or was seasoned enough to ask. And they disclosed it pretty readily, it seems.
<

I’m not sure who Se Young Lee is or what her experience is in reporting the beat. Could it be she was a bit green?
<
p>
And it wouldn’t be a consipiracy if she called for a comment on the project and the Sox spokesman never mentioned it.
<
p>
I’m not sure what the issue is, anyway. The neighborhood group supports the project. So why would they create a conspiracy?
Who said conspiracy?
<
p>
I read these articles as reports on the development that was presented at a public meeting. The Globe story said,
“The new plans, presented to the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s citizens advisory committee last night,”
<
p>
The Herald reported,
” Newton-based builder and prominent anti-gun activist John Rosenthal and the Red Sox presented the 1.2-million-square-foot One Kenmore proposal to a community review panel appointed by City Hall.”
<
p>
According to my reading the Red Sox equity stake was made known at the meeting.
<
p>
Was the reporter at the meeting? Perhaps not and relied on speaking with the parties instead. Nothing wrong with that. The story was about the development not the meeting.
Perhaps she had information in the story about the equity stake or potential equity stake and her editors removed it? Perhaps also she was mislead in that smug Larry Lucchino way and was told that they are just neighbors who love the plan.
<
p>
Some thing stinks about this and it isn’t the Globe reporter. I suspect that there may have been some phone calls from New York on this one.
<
p>
As stupid as that sounds.
<
p>
This whole thing about not creating new parking spaces, but rather replacing only those lost to development doesn’t sit right with me. I have to look into it a little more. But it seems the Sox and the NYT are making a play to control all the game day parking in the area.
<
p>
These guys are all about making their numbers. A cash cow of six to eight thousand cars 81 days a year paying $25 – $75 depending on location serioulsy helps those numbers.
<
p>
Oh, I guess this is a conspiracy
But why? Why?
What don’t they want us to know?
<
p>
More to Come
(I think)
<
p>
Wasn’t it the neighborhood guy that didn’t want “new” parking spaces created? Memory fails, but I thought his concern was that increasing parking spaces would increase auto traffic. And that they’d rather not see more traffic in the area, no matter who gets the $$ for it.
<
p>
It sure ain’t Ma and Pa Jersey Street that are collecing gold dubloons for spaces right now.

Are you a Yankee fan or a Duquette sympathizer? That might be the shady news that needs looking into.
You just don’t get it. This is an altruistic attempt to cover the Turnpike to protect motorists from Big Papi baseballs.
