I’ve noticed an interesting trend here in BMG land, it hasn’t invaded our differently winged site yet though. Since the advent of WSIWYG editing people are using different typefaces for their posts than the BMG standard. It’s getting annoying. Maybe it’s the printing salesman in me (I no longer practice Chemical/Paper Engineering but sell printing) but seeing a hodgepodge of different typefaces on the main page makes my head hurt.
In the grand scheme of things is this a biggie? No, but maybe the BMG editors can address it. It seems to me that the standard font for this blog is Trebuchet. Let’s keep it that way.
Please share widely!

as raj also stated, i find tiny font size a problem. change in font is a bit jarring sometimes, but not a biggie for me. what i find annoying is the huge amount of empty space at the bottom of some posts.

there are some oddities with the new WYSIWYG editor. I’m hoping that the Soapbloxmaster will be able to fix them, but I know he had all kinds of problems getting the WYSIWYG thing to work at all in all the browsers, so I’m not holding my breath. Personally, I have stopped using it — I got so used to the old autoformat that I am sticking with that, and I find it easier and faster. So much for progress!
mr-lynne says
… to get the editor to default to auto-format?
david says
Not for you? I could fuss with the settings, I guess. Would a default to autoformat be preferable?
mr-lynne says
… because I can then use firefox's spell-checker. The WYSIWYG doesn't register in the spell-checker.
kbusch says
Here's how.
Right click in the field you want spell checked. A context menu appears. The last item is “Spell check this field.” Select it. All your sins will be underlined in red.
Unfortunately, you have to do this every time, but it still works.
mr-lynne says
… as I type this. Yup there it is. Thanks!

…I don’t find different fonts a problem. I actually prefer Times-Roman. What I do find a problem is the point sizes. Twelve point type font is ideal.

I seriously don’t know why people want their comments to be ignored merely because they are unwilling to use universally standard 12 point fonts.
raj says
…people insist on using 6 or 8 point fonts. I suppose that those people want their comments to be ignored. And, accordingly, I will certainly ignore them.

They should consider blathering on at 4 point fonts.
hrs-kevin says
They could set the site up to increase the font size of highly-rated posts and decrease the size of low-rated ones.
<

That will really make your head hurt!
raj says
Not a bad idea, but if I don’t read a comment, I won’t rate it.
<

I avoid rating commens anyway, but that’s a different issue.

As an aside, have there been any reports in the US of the terrible floods in middle Africa?

Can you provide a link?

I first read about the central African floods in the German language media this morning.

and there are plenty of more useful changes they could make.

is that “formatted” posts sometimes come out weird in my RSS reader. Fortunately, I spend enough time at the actual site that it isn’t a problem.
kbusch says
You notice that problem here because there's usually more than one comment on post.
