American Flag Display

September 24, 2007 By pericles

Here is a picture I took last week while passing by the Commons in Weston, MA on my way home from apple picking with my daughter.  Seems like a rather nice and moving tribute to our fallen troops by the Town of Weston (at least I presume so though I did not ask anyone) – families and others that were there seemed rather moved by the display.  This is one public statement I am sure everyone can agree upon.  A lady next to me said “Where is my camera when I need it!”…so I got mine out and thought I would share this with you.

You all may be interested in the ongoing memorial in Santa Monica, CA, called Arlington West.

Every Sunday from sunrise to sunset, a temporary memorial is erected in the sand just north of the world famous pier at Santa Monica Beach in Los Angeles and at Sterns Wharf in Santa Barbara, California as well as other locations around the country. This memorial, known as Arlington West, is a project of Veterans For Peace (VFP).

Arlington West Mission Statement  In keeping with the Veterans For Peace Statement of Purpose, the Arlington West Mission Statement is: to honor the fallen and wounded to acknowledge the human cost of war to provide a place to grieve to encourage dialogue among people with varied points of view and to educate the public about the needs of those returning from war.

FWIW, the Herald reported that the display in Weston was put together as a tribute to the victims of 9-11, not our fallen troops.
