From Ana comes the news of the first high-profile Republican to criticize House minority leader John Boehner’s comment yesterday that American blood and money is “a small price” for what may someday emerge from Iraq. Thus spake John McCain:
“He ought to retract it.” … “He misspoke. With all due respect, every American wounded or sacrificed is the greatest possible price to pay,” and we should all be grateful, “particularly those of us who sit in relative safety while those young men and women are fighting.”
“Particularly those of us who sit in relative safety.” Well said, Senator. Occasionally we still see flashes of the guy I crossed over to vote for in the 2000 primary.
Again, I ask Jim Ogonowski: will you call on Minority Leader Boehner to retract his remark and apologize? And, if he does not do so, will you nonetheless support his leadership if you are elected to Congress?
I’ve emailed the Ogo campaign — will advise if I hear anything. Maybe Jon can get his son (one of Ogo’s media folks) to give us a statement! 😉

As long as he keeps away from the REALLY incendiary remarks such as “Humans should learn to love one another”, he need issue no retraction.
😛
It's interesting to see republicans eating their own. They won't consider bringing the troops home, but they'll spar over the correct way to talk about how they are dying. This is nothing more than theater.

I really think the state is ready for a Congressman who's to the right of John McCain.

I was pleased with that one. Tough crowd. 😉

I liked that one… but I almost pronounced it “bane-headed” 🙂

excellent pun. Just a bummer that is wasn’t a typo, huh? 😀

…southwestern Ohio, it’s probably a German name, and I use the German pronunciation. Its translation is not quite “bean” but close.

On the general subject matter of the post at the top, I’m still amused that anyone gives McCain the time of day. His only claim to fame is that he sat on his ass in a NVietnam prison camp for a few years, after having been shot down during a bombing raid over NVietnam. And after the NVietnamese offered to return him to the US.

If he had accepted the offer, he could have returned to duty with the US military, and conducted more bombing raids over NVietnam, which might have (but probably wouldn’t have) helped with the US war in Vietnam. But sitting on his ass in the NVientnam prison camp wouldn’t help the US Vietnam war effort in any event.

In American politics, raj, you get the time of day if you're running for president. Particularly if you did well last time you ran and have high expectations this time. It's how the system works over here.
lovable-liberal says
… “sitting on his ass” doesn't begin to describe McCain's ordeal at the hands of the North Vietnamese. If you had used it once, I could imagine it as a slip, but you clearly meant it. That brands you as having more passion than brains.
Do you recall the circumstances and conditions of the offer to release McCain? Do you think his suffering would have been increased by returning to flying – assuming against reason that he could have?
The reason I wouldn't give McCain the time of day is that he's a right-winger, no matter how many times he lets Jon Stewart rib him.
You also have no clue about the success of bombing in Vietnam. Basically, your comment was moronic.
raj says
…after McCain had been repatriated to the US, there wasn’t a whole lot that the NVietnamese could do about his subsequent possible missions. Was there?

He sat on his butt in a NV prison camp, not doing a thing to further the American’s ill-advised Vietnam war effort. And he’s ever since doing his “I was a POW” bit for political effect. I will tell you this, I would vote for my father, who was a POW in Germany during WWII, before I would give McCain the time of day.

McCain’s actions were stupid, and they did nothing to further the American war effort. ‘nough said? So, why laud him because of his stupid actions?

…Ogo's not a partisan politician – I wonder how long it will take to get a response? Keep us posted, David, and as to the pun, well, don't quit your day job!
