From this morning's Boston Globe – – –
“Former governor Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire said yesterday that she will challenge Senator John E. Sununu in 2008, setting up a rematch of their closely fought 2002 contest and presenting Sununu, a Republican, with a serious test of his support for the Iraq war”.
Massachusetts progressives have two solid candidates to support in New England. Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire and, as others have already said better then I, Congressman Tom Allen in Maine.
Let's get Niki elected on October 16th and then turn our efforts to New Hampshire and Maine.
Please share widely!
I'm a big Jeanne Shaheen fan. I did some volunteer work for her back on her '96 gubernatorial campaign. I look forward to campaigning for her again.
The Courant reported yesterday that Rep. Shays will not run if he is denied a committee chairmanship. That kind of threatening is sure to work with the Republican leadership!
As of the 2006 election, Shays was the only Republican member of the house from New England. Perhaps, in the interests of stopping the war, we can egg him on into a full-blown tantrum.
The only way he's going to become chair is if he changes parties.
He wants to be guaranteed ranking member status, which is something different.
What he wants to be is the Ranking Member, that is the top member of the minority party on the committee.
(This si a problem with newspapers generally: often they employ “Headline writers” who just write the headlines for a whole bunch of stories, meaning that the person who wrote the headline isn't as familiar with the topic and more likely to make an error, where it's most important)
Let’s get serious here. Ms Tsongas is just another yes vote for the middle of the road Democrats who are forgetting why the electorate put them back into the majority in the first place.Check out this recent entry from Patrick Murphy’s Blog if you want to see some real progressive views for change.

Here I thought you were the Patrick Murphy just elected from Pennsylvania who has done a truly excellent job of opposing the occupation.
I supported Jamie Eldridge because I thought Niki would be too middle-of-the-road. Well, actually, Jamie's a friend of mine, but the first sentence is true, too.
Would Patrick Murphy have a clue how to move the Democratic “leadership” off their butts? If you think so, I've got some subprime mortgages to sell you.

This time, the phone jammers are in jail. Maybe Shaheen would’ve already won in 2002 if it hadn’t been for them.
Tom's a great candidate, and Susan Collins needs to find the exit door – see the details of the matching funds here:

I've collected $195 so far, and I've matched $170 of that – an additional $25 came in today, I'll be matching that plus any other contributions later tonight.
If you've been thinking of donating to Tom, make it count for more by donating at my ActBlue page – thanks!
if niki had a clue how to “move the democratic leadership off their butts” do you think she'd actually know in which direction to send them? rhetorical-no need for reply. i'm voting for murphy. aside from him being my cousin, i know he can get things done. he's a scholar, a hard worker, and has the drive of a boxer–because he was a champion one in the amateurs. he has more intellect and guts than any other candidate, and he's the candidate we should be talking about.
Hey, Dan, you replied to my rhetorical question. Don't I get to reply to yours?
What if there were no rhetorical questions?

If anyone on this notably progressive Blog was going remember that Ms Tsongas is not one which leaves Patrick Murphy as the one true progressive in the race. Thanks for the Support o'c.
