I am not sure how much the victims families will appreciate having to look at these pictures again and again. I would think they would rather remember their loved ones as they knew them, and not have to be reminded of exactly how horribly they died.
OK, you got me — I forgot about the “9/11 was a US gov’t conspiracy” crowd. Fine, they do exist — although as you well know they are a tiny, tiny percentage of the population.

But that’s really not who you were talking about, is it? I think you were suggesting that “people” who disagree with you about how best to remember that day and honor the lives of those who died on it must really think that 9/11 wasn’t such a big deal, and that anyway the terrorist thread isn’t worth worrying much about.

Well you’re wrong about that.

“It is the decent thing to honor those who died that day but the profane part is knowing the US government was involved.” How manny active members of BMG are there? Just curious.
Somebody opined that seeing photos of the Twin Towers was too painful for the families of survivors, and perhaps they shouldn't be displayed.
I responded –
I've never heard such a comment from victim's relatives, And yes, I have met more than one.
[I have heard such comments] Only from people who would prefer not to remember that we were attacked, and are still in danger.
That reamains perfectly true. You challanged me to 'name names' of these allegedly imaginary people, and I provided you with a few local examples. And really, there are MANY more.
I wan't looking to 'get' you David – but I was responding to the comments of another. And really, that was all.
But it does annoy me that I must constantly provide 'proof' when others assert with impunity that we all KNOW it is the policy of the US to murder civilians, and that we KNOW that Petreaus lied because Kos said so, and that we KNOW…and even a simple request for a citation, much less a proof, for these 'facts' is treated with scorn.

I'm not hear to pick on you either, but I too want to point out to you that there are a lot of people who believe in the “9/11 was a US gov't conspiracy”….even BMG'ers

I cannot claim to be a relative of a victim, but I do feel I have special connection to that day. I was on a 9am American Airlines flight from Boston to San Jose on 9/11. I am fully aware of the fact that the terrorists could just as well have picked my flight to hijack.

They put us down in Chicago where all the rental cars and hotels had long been taken. All of the TVs in the airport were off and it was extremely difficult to make cellular connection. I was going to rent a U-Haul and drive it back with a woman I met from the plane, but instead we ended up getting together with two additional passengers and got a cab to take us back to Boston. We all took turns driving. I didn’t get back home until the morning of the 12th.

This spared us the trial of having to watch everything unfold on television. I know that if I had not been traveling, I could have been glued to the television and would have witnessed the tragedy over and over again as I believe most Americans have. I am grateful to have been spared that, but
it still sickens me to see these pictures.

While it might be useful to see these pictures from time to time as a reminder of the dangers that confront us, I don’t see that it really serves as a tribute to the dead.

Others may feel differently, but I hope that if I happen to die violently that no one will try to honor me by posting pictures of it occurring.

The political structure of the US was never seriously theatened by the terroists. As I’ve written here on another thread, I opined on 9/12 that the terrorists shot their wad on 9/11, and I’ve largely been proved true.

Just to let you know, the German language publication Der Spiegel had several times more pages addressed to 9/11 over the next few months than all of the American news publications combined. AND, they were all sympathetic to the Americans.
