Dunster has previously posted about some curious items in a Charley Murphy mailing. Looking at the issues page of Charley’s website, Charley says:
As your State Senator I pledge to:
* Lift the lottery cap and ensure adequate funding for local aid.
Correct me if I am wrong, but according to the Massachusetts Municipal Association (June 30, 2006) the lottery cap was lifted last year.
Lottery revenues fully uncapped with $159 million increase; key municipal accounts grow
The Legislature took final action on its fiscal 2007 state budget today, adopting the House-Senate budget conference report and sending it to the governor.
As expected, the Legislature’s budget includes a major win for cities and towns by fully ending the Lottery diversion and providing a $159 million increase in Lottery distributions.
Who’s right? Murphy or the MMA?
Do you really think we need a senator who pays attention to such minute details?
Legislating is, after all, about getting the details right. I fail to see how a candidate who overlooks them will serve us well in office.
It’s a statewide formula based program, of course, and any increase is split 351 ways – but why would VOTERS know that? Murphy probably has the press release drafted taking credit.
…knew what to do with the Cape pol who wanted to raise only his own Chapter 90 funds (this is state aid for local roads). I’ll bet this pol was for cutting taxes as well.
